Diagnostics, ECU and engine work

From a coding fault on a family car to a forged engine for competition use, this is the work the Goose Green workshop takes on.

  • We diagnose before we quote
  • ECUs repaired, not just replaced
  • Everyday cars and vans too

What we do

Nine things we are asked for most

Diagnostics and auto-electrics

Engine, gearbox, body and chassis faults traced with live data and manufacturer-level tooling. Intermittent electrical faults included: they are often the ones that end up here.

Dealer-level coding and programming

Authorised diagnostic access for VAG, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Ford, JLR and Stellantis, so coding, programming, adaptations and retrofits can be done here instead of at a main dealer.

ECU and module repair and cloning

Failed engine ECUs and control modules repaired or cloned on the bench, then programmed back into the car. Usually quicker and cheaper than a new unit that would need programming anyway.

Key and immobiliser programming

Keys programmed and immobiliser faults worked on in the workshop with manufacturer-level tooling.

Remapping and standalone ECUs

Remaps for standard and modified engines, and standalone ECU installs for builds that have outgrown the factory system.

Engine building and machining

In-house machining, standard rebuilds and forged builds, turbo kits and custom exhausts, with Mitsubishi Evo engines a speciality.

Servicing, repairs and MOT work

Servicing and mechanical repairs for everyday cars and vans: MOT repairs, tyres, exhausts, electrics and suspension.

Motorsport preparation and fabrication

Track and race car preparation, setup and fabrication, from suspension to the engine and electronics.

Technical reports

Written technical reports for insurance and warranty purposes, based on what the car and the diagnostic data show.

How a job runs

From phone call to handover

  1. 01

Tell us what it is doing

Ring or email with the make, model and the symptoms. For an engine or performance build, tell us what you want from the car.

  2. 02

    Diagnose before quoting

The car goes on the diagnostic equipment and we find out what is genuinely wrong, then price the work from that.

  3. 03

    Do the work

Diagnostics, coding, bench electronics, machining or build work: whatever the job needs, it is done here.

  4. 04

    Test and hand back

We prove the fix on the car before you collect it, and write it up where you need it in writing.

Questions

Before you book

Not usually. We have authorised diagnostic access for VAG, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Ford, JLR and Stellantis, which covers the coding, programming and adaptations most independent garages have to send away.

Often, yes. We repair and clone engine ECUs and control modules on the bench and programme them back into the vehicle, which is usually quicker and cheaper than a new unit.

Yes. Key and immobiliser programming is done in the workshop. Ring with the make, model and year and we will tell you what is possible.

No. That is where AMD started, and we still know those engines inside out, but the workshop covers everyday makes as well as modified and competition cars.

Yes. We service and repair vans as well as cars.

Yes. We write technical reports for insurance and warranty purposes, based on the condition of the vehicle and the diagnostic evidence.

We diagnose first and price from what we find. Ring the workshop with the make, model and fault and we will explain what is involved.
